授業テーマ	This purpose of this course is to learn to write paragraphs. The class will concentrate on academic stlye writing: what it is and how to do it.
授業のねらい・到達目標	Academic writing involves a different set of skills from email writing, note taking, letter writing and so on. By learning about what academic writing is, the student will become familiar with the method of writing an academic paper that is acceptable at the university level.
授業の方法	Students must be familiar with and be able to produce basic sentence types and have an understanding of English grammar patterns. Students in this class must also know the fundamentals of keyboarding and have a reasonable knowledge of Microsoft Word 2010.

1	Guidance for second semester. Process Analysis Paagraphs
2	Organizing a process paragraph. Paraphrasing, sentence writing and vocabulary building.
3	In class writing--process analysis paragraph. Other online exercises.
4	Descriptive Paragraphs. Using the five senses to describe things. Paraphrasing, sentence writing and vocabulary building.
5	Denotation and connotation as used in descriptive paragraphs. Paraphrasing, sentence writing and vocabulary building.
6	Descriptions using prepositions of location. Timed writing
7	Opinion Paragraphs. What is an opinion paragraph? Facts vs. opinions.
8	Choosing a topic for an opinion paragraph. Paraphrasing, sentence writing and vocabulary building.
9	Student writing assignment: Opinion In class exercises.
10	Narrative Paragraphs. Coming up with ideas for narrative paragraphs.
11	Paragraphs in an essay. Final paper assignment Paraphrasing, sentence writing and vocabulary building.
12	In class work: editing your final paper.
13	Final Test
14	Online assignment and discussion.
15	Discussion of online assignment; BB9 grade check for the semester.

備考	Parts of the class will be held via Blackboard--an interactive tool provided by Computer Center. All students will need to know how access the internet at CHS or at home, as they will have to participate in blogs, do homework assignments, and take part in online discussions. Permission to access the campus internet is issued by the computer center. There is no monetary outlay required by the students.
