授業テーマ This course will focus on helping students to function confidently and successfully in social situations,with special emphasis on using English in their work.
授業のねらい・到達目標 The aim of this class is to reinforce and expand students` listening, speaking and reading skills acquired in the first semester. Students will develop confidence and autonomy in their learning through using English in real life.
授業の方法 Each week, we will practice a model conversation, do vocabulary exercises, answer comprehension questions and other activities in the form of listening and speaking.

授業計画
1 Review of units completed in the first semester. Students will make short presentations about their summer vacation. Discussion of syllabus for the fall semester.
2 Unit 6 - OK no problem - complaints, making requests, agreeing to and refusing requests.
3 Unit 6 continued. complaining, apologizing and giving excuses, writing a set of guidelines on "How to ask for a favor".
4 Unit 7 - What`s this for? describing technology, giving instructions.
5 Unit 7 continued - giving suggestions, writing an e-mail and asking for a specific favor.
6 Unit 8 - Let`s celebrate - describing holidays, festivals and customs.
7 Unit 8 continued - special events. Discuss about how festivals and special events are celebrated in different countries.
8 Unit 9 - Times have changed - life in the past, present and the future.
9 Unit 9 continued - changes and contrary consequences.
10 Teacher and students discuss topics on social issues for their final class presentation.
11 Unit 10 - I hate working on weekends - abilities and skills, job preferences.

12 Unit 11 - It`s really worth seeing - Landmarks and monuments.
Famous landmarks in Japan and how to describe them.
13 In class test and explanation.
14 Students prepare for the presentation on social issues.
15 Presentation by the students and comments by the teacher.

成績評価の方法及び基準 平常点(10%)、授業内テスト(70%)、Group Presentation(20%)
Students who are absent for more than 1/3 of the classes without a valid reason will not receive the credit for the course.
