授業テーマ	This course builds students’ academic writing skills from the paragraph to the research essay level. The content for writing topics is current issues (e.g., global warming or aging society) and various genres of academic writing are looked at (e.g., narratives, summaries, comparisons, opinions, reports and research essays).
授業のねらい・到達目標	The goal of this course is to develop students’ academic writing skills. Students will be able to analyze currents issues and write about them in various academic writing genres to express their opinions on the issues and to research experts’ opinions using web-based resources. The final goal is for students to write an acceptable academic research essay.
授業の方法	This is an academic writing course that focuses on students’ academic writing needs. Each class will introduce a specific writing genre or target (e.g., thesis statements or topic sentences), will involve student pair-work discussing writing topics and progress and, will finish with doing academic writing. Students will learn to take notes, as well as practice planning, writing, and revising different types of writing about their topics. They will also learn to use web-based resources to develop their academic writing skills.
