授業テーマ | This course should be viewed as a confidence builder. Students who take this course will have many oppurtunities to express their own opinions, ideas and knowledge as a way to build confidence to communicate through both oral and written forms of English. |

授業のねらい・到達目標 | The purpose of this course is to build confidence using both spoken and written English within general scientific themes. This, of course, will include making presentations and writing for reports and publications. Here students should not worry about English levels nor making mistakes as mistakes are an important part of learning. |
授業の方法 | Students will be expected to read sample texts on a variety of scienticfic themes and topics. Students will also be expected to display understanding through discussions and group presentations. Writing will also be a major component of this course. |

教科書 | No text will be set for this course. Readings and other material will be provided through handouts. Students should also be prepared to use English - English dictionaries to aid understanding and building of passive and active vocabulary. Cell-phones should be firmly placed in bags out of sight or the cell phones will be confiscated. |
成績評価の方法及び基準 | 平常点(40%)、レポート(20%)、授業内テスト(20%)、授業参画度(20%) Grades will be based on student participation, ability, attendance and reports. As no formal test will be set, students should be aware that performance and interection combined with typed reports will also determine the grade to be received. |
