授業概要 This course uses high interest content (i.e., global, information technology, social and economic issues) to build on students’ daily conversation and academic spoken English ability. Students engage, analyze and express their opinions on topics of their choice and develop their discussion, presentation and debate skills by focusing on roles and strategies. The class is held in the Media Lab so students will have access to various online media sources.
授業のねらい・到達目標 The goal of this course is to develop students’ speaking ability to
- Express their opinions about topics of interest to them
- To analyze and research their chosen topics using various online media sources
- To develop problem-solving and critical thinking skills
- To engage and participate in discussions, presentations and debates.

この科目は文理学部(学士(文学))のディプロマポリシーDP2,DP4,DP5及びカリキュラムポリシーCP5, CP8に対応しています。
授業の方法 The teaching method is content and language integrated (CLIL) learning which focuses on high interest content to improve students’ English speaking ability (both daily conversation and academic) and has a focus on pair and group work for students to engage and to brainstorm ideas, to express their opinions, and do online research.
Students are supposed to spend 1 hour to complete preparation and homework on each class.
履修条件 ・同一教員・同一時限で前期と後期を対にして履修すること。
・後期のみの受講希望者も必ず「前期」の初回授業に参加し、履修の許可を得た上で、後期に履修登録すること。前期の初回授業時に受講希望者が定員を超過した場合、人数調整をする。

成績評価の方法及び基準 授業参画度(10%)、Presentation and Debate(70%)、Self-Study(20%)
Students' participation is measured by speaking English as much as possible and cooperating in pair and group work in class.
オフィスアワー The lecturer will be available before and after class and through email.
備考 Students are required to do self-study of approximately one hour outside of class each week by researching their topics and preparing notes using online media sources.
