授業概要 The goal of this course is to improve students’ daily and academic spoken and listening English communication ability. Students learn to analyze and express their opinions about an issue of their choice by focusing on conversation and discussion strategies and roles in pair and group work as well as a language focus on vocabulary, collocations and idioms.
授業のねらい・到達目標 By looking at various academic issues (e.g., education or the environment), students are able to:
- Express their opinions on the issues
- Agree and disagree with other students’ opinions
- Improve their problem solving and critical-thinking skills
- Improve their confidence when communicating in English.

この科目は文理学部(学士(文学))のディプロマポリシーDP2,DP4,DP5及びカリキュラムポリシーCP5,CP8に対応しています。
授業の方法 The content and language integrated learning method has a focus on pair and group work to brainstorm and share ideas before choosing a topic for the academic task. Students analyze a particular issue from four levels (i.e., background, problem, solution and opinion) and after every two or three units there is an academic task (i.e., conversations, discussions, and presentations). Self-study in the form of online research assignments is also required.
Students are supposed to spend 1 hour to complete preparation and homework on each class.
履修条件 ①英語習熟度別クラス分けテストを受け、その結果により振り分けられたクラスで履修すること。
②英語習熟度別クラス分けテスト未受験の者は、外国語教育センターで振り分けられたクラスで履修すること。振り分けられたクラス以外での履修はできません。
③「英語1」(前期)と「英語2」(後期)は同一教員による同一時限のクラスを履修すること。
④卒業に必要な外国語科目として「英語」を選択した場合、必ずこの科目を履修すること。

Students' participation is measured by speaking English as much as possible and cooperating in pair and group work in class.
オフィスアワー The lecturer will be available before and after class and through email.
備考 Students are required to do self-study of online research for approximately one hour of their topics and preparation of assignments outside of class each week.
