授業概要 This class will focus on English speaking, listening, reading and writing. An emphasis will be placed on societal and cultural issues of English speaking countries. Through a variety of task-based activities, students will not only improve their English skills, they will also have an opportunity to explore various topics in English.
授業のねらい・到達目標 This course is designed to increase confidence, fluency and accuracy in English speaking, listening, reading and writing. The atmosphere of this class will provide a positive, encouraging, and collaborative workshop environment in which students will challenge themselves to attain a higher level of English competency.

この科目は文理学部(学士(文学))のディプロマポリシーDP2,DP4,DP5及びカリキュラムポリシーCP5,CP8に対応しています。
授業の方法 Students will participate in a variety of classroom activities including pair and group work. There will also be quizzes, and individual as well as group presentations. Students should be prepared to spend approximately one hour per week to complete preparation and homework.
履修条件 ①英語習熟度別クラス分けテストを受け、その結果により振り分けられたクラスで履修すること。
②英語習熟度別クラス分けテスト未受験の者は、外国語教育センターで振り分けられたクラスで履修すること。振り分けられたクラス以外での履修はできません。
③「英語1」(前期)と「英語2」(後期)は同一教員による同一時限のクラスを履修すること。
④卒業に必要な外国語科目として「英語」を選択した場合、必ずこの科目を履修すること。

Preparation: Prepare for class presentation. Practice reading survey out loud

5 Culture study - Focus on New York
Preparation: Write 20 facts about New York from the travel documentary
Homework: Brainstorming activity - dream destinations
6 Extreme survival
Preparation: Write a one page survival story
Homework: Write a summary of three classmate's stories
7 Survival round robin
Preparation: Review survival tips
Homework: Write a review of your group's findings

Preparation: Fill out "Where in the World" sheet

Student participation will be measured by weekly homework, reaction papers, discussions, presentations conducted twice per semester, and an end-term examination.
オフィスアワー I will be available before and after class in the classroom.
備考 Each week, students will be asked to review their work and will prepare for the next week's class. The preparation will vary each week and will include be different, reading handouts given by the instructor, writing reports, doing research and preparing for quizzes and presentations.
