授業概要	This class is designed to help students to develop their speaking and listening skills. The students will have the opportunity to listen to natural conversation in different situations and can immediately use in a university context. The will help students to understand English used in a variety of situations and to be able to respond in ways appropriate to the situation. In class, students learn to understand the main ideas, and learn to identify necessary information in fields such as transportation, accommodation, catering, international trade and tourism.
授業のねらい・到達目標	Listening Mastering the skills to understand the main points of a conversation on familiar topics at normal speed. Ability to understand expressions and vocabulary used in daily life. Speaking Students learn to speak clearly and confidently on topics in daily life. They also develop vocabulary necessary for everyday transactions and use simple grammatically correct sentences clear enough to be understood. この科目は文理学部（学士（文学））のディプロマポリシーDP2,DP4,DP5及びカリキュラムポリシーCP5,CP8に対応しています。
授業の方法	Students will practice the authentic model conversations in the textbook in the form of role-plays. In addition to the textbook, I will use supplementary materials to encourage students to communicate effectively. Skill building exercises will be done in class in the form of individual, group and pair work activities with the use of audio and video materials. Students will be required to engage in these activities. Classes will be conducted as much as possible in English. In addition, students are required to engage in the keynote reading in the textbook to increase input. Students are supposed to spend 1 hour to complete preparation and homework on each class.
履修条件	①英語習熟度別クラス分けテストを受け、その結果により振り分けられたクラスで履修すること。 ②英語習熟度別クラス分けテスト未受験の者は、外国語教育センターで振り分けられたクラスで履修すること。振り分けられたクラス以外での履修はできません。 ③「英語1」（前期）と「英語2」（後期）は同一教員による同一時限のクラスを履修すること。 ④卒業に必要な外国語科目として「英語」を選択した場合、必ずこの科目を履修すること。 Students are expected to come to class with a positive mind to improve their communication skills. Students are also required to spend at least an hour per week studying the textbook, class materials and listen to the CD to review materials studied in previous classes.

1	Orientation - Introduction of the teacher and the students. Syllabus for the course, guidelines for the classes, useful classroom English with handouts. 【事前学習】Students should read the online syllabus and buy the textbook. 【事後学習】Students write their self introduction on the format given by the instructor.
2	Introduction: Setting the Scene. When the ALT comes to your school for the first time. Listening practice and answering follow up questions. 【事前学習】Students read the conversation on pages 6 and 7. 【事後学習】Answer the questions on page 7.
3	Introducing our School and School Life - developing vocabulary on school facilities, equipment, stationery, teaching aids and annual events. 【事前学習】Students read page 8. 【事後学習】Students complete the exercise on page 9.
4	Chapter 1 - Forming a good relationship with students, Listening activity. 【事前学習】Read keynote reading on page 10. 【事後学習】Collect information for keeping a class journal.
5	Chapter 1 continued. Keeping a class journal. Listening activity, group discussion. 【事前学習】Read keynote reading on page 14 and underline the difficult words. 【事後学習】Summarize today's points in your notebook.
6	Chapter 2 - Cooperation with Assistant Language Teachers - vocabulary preview, listening activity. 【事前学習】Find information from the Internet on activities of ALT in Japan. 【事後学習】Exercises on page 16.
7	Chapter 2 continued. Keynote reading, important phrases/words. 【事前学習】Prepare for the discussion questions on page 17. 【事後学習】Read the keynote reading passage on page 18.
8	Chapter 3 - Groupism - vocabulary preview, keynote reading, phrases/words in the keynote reading. 【事前学習】Students find information on the advantages and disadvantages of groupism in Japan. 【事後学習】Answer the discussion questions on page 21.
9	Chapter 3 continued - listening activity, keeping a class journal, question topics. 【事前学習】Read keynote passage on page 22. 【事後学習】Summarize today's points in your notebook.
10	Chapter 4 - Inter-lingual Interference - vocabulary preview, keynote reading, important phrases/words in the keynote reading. 【事前学習】Prepare answers for the discussion topics on page 25. 【事後学習】Homework assignment - writing about the importance of English Education in Japan.
11	Chapter 4 continued - listening activity, further study, keeping class journal, discussion topics. 【事前学習】Summarize the key points in the reading passage. 【事後学習】Read keynote reading on page 26.
12	Watching a movie and writing a review and present to the class. 【事前学習】Read review about the movie. 【事後学習】Writing the review/impressions about the movie.
13	Chapter 5 - British English and American British - vocabulary preview, keynote reading, important phrases/words in the keynote reading. 【事前学習】Listen to American and British conversations on CDs. 【事後学習】Find words/phrases with American and British expressions and spellings.
14	Chapter 5 continued - listening activity, keeping a class journal, discussion topics. 【事前学習】Review the units covered in class to ask clarifications from the instructor. 【事後学習】Ask questions from the instructor about preparation for the test.
15	Wrap up and review. Final test. 【事前学習】Prepare for the final test. 【事後学習】Do the summer homework.

参考書	Never mind making mistakes in class. You will gain a great sense of accomplishment through this challenging but enjoyable course. I think you will enjoy this class and have fun using English for communication. Students are required to spend at least an hour per week studying the textbook, class materials and listen to the CD in order to prepare for the next class. Bring an English-English dictionary to class.

オフィスアワー	Please come to the teacher's lounge before class or speak to me after class in the classroom on Mondays.
