授業概要 This class is designed to help students to develop their speaking and listening skills. The students will have the opportunity to listen to natural conversation in different situations and can immediately use in a university context. The will help students to understand English used in a variety of situations and to be able to respond in ways appropriate to the situation. In class, students learn to understand the main ideas, and learn to identify necessary information in fields such as transportation, accommodation, catering, international trade and tourism.
授業のねらい・到達目標 Listening
Mastering the skills to understand the main points of a conversation on familiar topics at normal speed. Ability to understand expressions and vocabulary used in daily life.

Speaking
Students learn to speak clearly and confidently on topics in daily life. They also develop vocabulary necessary for everyday transactions and use simple grammatically correct sentences clear enough to be understood.

この科目は文理学部(学士(文学))のディプロマポリシーDP2,DP4,DP5及びカリキュラムポリシーCP5,CP8に対応しています。
授業の方法 Students will practice the authentic model conversations in the textbook in the form of role-plays. In addition to the textbook, I will use supplementary materials to encourage students to communicate effectively. Skill building exercises will be done in class in the form of individual, group and pair work activities with the use of audio and video materials. Students will be required to engage in these activities. Classes will be conducted as much as possible in English. In addition, students are required to engage in the keynote reading in the textbook to increase input.

Students are supposed to spend 1 hour to complete preparation and homework on each class.
履修条件 ①英語習熟度別クラス分けテストを受け、その結果により振り分けられたクラスで履修すること。
②英語習熟度別クラス分けテスト未受験の者は、外国語教育センターで振り分けられたクラスで履修すること。振り分けられたクラス以外での履修はできません。
③「英語1」(前期)と「英語2」(後期)は同一教員による同一時限のクラスを履修すること。
④卒業に必要な外国語科目として「英語」を選択した場合、必ずこの科目を履修すること。

Students are expected to come to class with a positive mind to improve their communication skills. Students are also required to spend at least an hour per week studying the textbook, class materials and listen to the CD to review materials studied in previous classes.

1 Orientation - Introduction of the teacher and the students. Syllabus for the course, guidelines for the classes, useful classroom English with handouts.

2 Introduction: Setting the Scene. When the ALT comes to your school for the first time. Listening practice and answering follow up questions.

3 Introducing our School and School Life - developing vocabulary on school facilities, equipment, stationery, teaching aids and annual events.
【事前学習】Students read page 8.

4 Chapter 1 - Forming a good relationship with students, Listening activity.
【事前学習】Read keynote reading on page 10.
【事後学習】Collect information for keeping a class journal.

参考書 Never mind making mistakes in class. You will gain a great sense of accomplishment through this challenging but enjoyable course.
I think you will enjoy this class and have fun using English for communication.

Students are required to spend at least an hour per week studying the textbook, class materials and listen to the CD in order to prepare for the next class. Bring an English-English dictionary to class.

Students’ participation will be measured by attitude.
オフィスアワー Please come to the teacher's lounge before class or speak to me after class in the classroom on Mondays.
