授業概要 This is a 4-skills, Internet-based course featuring "TED Talks" video presentations.
授業のねらい・到達目標 By taking this course, students are able to improve their English communication skills by discussing and answering questions about contemporary global topics by watching the videos and reading the transcripts. They also acquire practical skills they need in order to clearly write and share their ideas in an online forum. Finally, students improve their ability to communicate in English by discussing their ideas in groups, and by presenting their opinions about the topics to the class.

授業の方法 There are 4 topics covered in the semester, and each topic has 3 classes. Class 1 begins with a presentation/lecture by the teacher about the topic. Students then watch the "TED Talks" video while reading the transcript, and then discuss and answer questions about the transcript in groups. In class 2, students write about and share their ideas regarding the topic in an online forum. Finally in class 3, students discuss their ideas in groups, and present their opinions to the class. Students should spend 1 hour to complete preparation and homework for each class.

2 Students learn how to write comments and replies on the course website, and then take short, online quizzes to evaluate and assess what they have learned.

3 TOPIC 1: DIGITAL MONEY - Class 1
Students list to the teacher presentation/lecture about the topic overview.
Student watch the "TED Talks" video while reading the transcript.

4 TOPIC 1 - Class 2
Students write about their ideas regarding topic questions to be used for discussions and presentations.
Student preparation: Read and choose a question to write a comment.
Student review: Ten steps about how to write a comment and reply.
5 TOPIC 1 - Class 3
Students discuss in groups their ideas they wrote about in Class 2.
Students present their opinions to the class based on their discussion.
Student preparation: Write and complete a presentation worksheet.
Review: How to present - skills and goals.
6 TOPIC 2: SUCCESS - Class 1
Students list to the teacher presentation/lecture about the topic overview.
Student watch the "TED Talks" video while reading the transcript.
In groups, students discuss and answer questions about the video transcript.

7 TOPIC 2 - Class 2

教科書 There is no textbook for this course. Instead, there is a course website provided by the teacher, and printed video transcripts.

成績評価の方法及び基準 授業内テスト(20%)、授業参画度(20%)、Topic writing assignments(30%)、Presentations(30%)
Students' participation is measured by the number of minutes spent discussing in groups the topics. Students' participation is also measured by presentations given two times in a semester. In-class examination is measured by a term-end exam.
オフィスアワー Teacher is available before and after class in order to answer student questions related to the class.
