授業概要	This class is coordinated with English 1 and students will continue to develop their communicative skills acquired in the spring semester. We will continue with the same textbook, and emphasis will be placed on developing the speaking skills of the students.
授業のねらい・到達目標	The students will have the opportunity to listen to natural conversation in different situations that they might encounter during their stay abroad. この科目は文理学部（学士（文学））のディプロマポリシーDP2,DP4,DP5及びカリキュラムポリシーCP5,CP8に対応しています。
授業の方法	In addition to the textbook we will use supplementary materials and communicative activities through the use of DVDs, videos and other visual materials. Class work will consist of individual, group and pair work activities. Students are supposed to spend 1 hour to complete preparation and homework on each class.
履修条件	①英語習熟度別クラス分けテストを受け、その結果により振り分けられたクラスで履修すること。 ②英語習熟度別クラス分けテスト未受験の者は、外国語教育センターで振り分けられたクラスで履修すること。振り分けられたクラス以外での履修はできません。 ③「英語1」（前期）と「英語2」（後期）は同一教員による同一時限のクラスを履修すること。 ④卒業に必要な外国語科目として「英語」を選択した場合、必ずこの科目を履修すること。

授業計画
1	Students write about how they spent the summer vacation and present it to the class. 【事前学習】Preparation - Read pages 39 and 40 of Unit 7. 【事後学習】Students will re-write their essays with the corrections.
2	Unit 7 - Finding Work - job interview and practice the dialog. 【事前学習】Students list the type of part-time jobs done by them. 【事後学習】Students do the comprehension exercises on page 41.
3	Unit 7 continued - drills - listen and fill in the blanks. 【事前学習】Preparation - Read pages 45 and 46 of Unit 8. 【事後学習】Students write their experiences on facing an interview and bring it to class.
4	Unit 8 - Dining - ordering a meal, practice the conversation. 【事前学習】Students list out the type of restaurants they frequent. 【事後学習】Students do the listening practice on page 49 at home.
5	Unit 8 continued - paying for a meal and practice the model conversation - do follow up exercises. 【事前学習】Preparation - Read pages 51 and 52 of Unit 9. 【事後学習】Read and find the difficult words in the deli menu on page 50.
6	Unit 9 - Crime and Safety - practice the model conversation. 【事前学習】Students find out details about the common crimes in Japan. 【事後学習】Watch the DVD on crime reporting and write a summary about crime reporting.
7	Unit 9 continued - crime reporting and practice the conversation - do the drills. 【事前学習】Preparation - Read pages 58 and 59 of Unit 10. Read and get information about the New York City Police Department. 【事後学習】Summarize the important points studied in Unit 9.
8	Unit 10 - NYC Metro Travel - practice the conversation for buying tickets. 【事前学習} Listen and watch the DVD about Metro Travel. 【事後学習】Compare the Metro card like Smart Link PATH Card with Pasmo and Suica in Japan.
9	Unit 10 continued - listen and fill in the blanks 【事前学習】Summarize the important differences in the cards used in Japan and the USA. 【事後学習】Prepare for next lesson on English presentations.
10	Unit 11 - English Presentations - class speech, answering questions. 【事前学習】Watch the DVD on Ayumi's class presentation. 【事後学習】Answer the comprehension questions on page 64.
11	Unit 11 continued - follow up exercises. 【事前学習】Preparation - Read pages 68 and 69 of Unit 12. 【事後学習】Read and try to understand teacher's feedback on Ayumi's presentation on page 67.
12	Unit 12 - Banking - opening an account, practice the conversation. 【事前学習】Listen and watch the DVD about account opening. 【事後学習】Compare the system of account opening in Japan and New York.
13	Unit 12 continued - follow up exercises - comprehension, substitution, antonyms and listen and fill in the blanks. 【事前学習】Summarize the important points in Unit 12. 【事後学習】Read Unit 13 and find the meaning of difficult medical terms.
14	Unit 13 - Medical treatment - illnesses, patient registration, treatment, practice the conversation and do follow up exercises. 【事前学習】Review the units covered in class to ask for clarification from the instructor. 【事後学習】Study for the final test.
15	Summary and Review. Final test. 【事前学習】Feedback 【事後学習】Students express their opinions about the class and the textbook used.
