| 授業概要 | This course explores the modernization of Japanese society during the Taisho era through the prism of literature. By reading Tanizaki Junichiro’s 1925 novel “Naomi”, we follow the changes that revolutionized Japanese lifestyle in terms of gender roles, education, media, and leisure. We pay particular attention to the ways these changes are embedded within the evolving urban landscape of Tokyo in the 1920s. 谷崎潤一郎の小説『痴人の愛』を英語で読み、大正期の日本社会におけるジェンダー、メディア、レジャーなどの近代化を考える。 |
| 授業のねらい・到達目標 | The aim of this course is to study the specificities of Japanese modernization as expressed by one of the greatest Japanese authors of the 20th century. Students should read and study the novel “Naomi” in English and analyze its main themes. They should achieve a general understanding of the ways Japanese urban life rapidly changed in the 1920s and its consequences for Japanese society to this day. この科目は文理学部のDP及びCP1に対応しています。 |
| 授業の方法 | Students learn to read literary texts in English and communicate on the topic. Via Blackboard, students have access to reading materials and PowerPoint slides on-demand and need to submit short assignments every week (quizzes and short essays on the reading materials). Mid-term and final essays also need to be submitted via Blackboard. Blackboardを通してオンデマンド教材を配信する（テキストとPowerPointスライド）。受講生はその教材を学修し、所定の方法で課題の解答やエッセイーを提供する。 |
