授業テーマ | The purpose of this course is to take the student from writing paragraphs to writing academic style essays. After a review of basic paragraph structure we will move on to multi-paragraph academic essays. |
---|---|
授業のねらい・到達目標 | Academic writing involves a different set of skills from texting, email writing, note taking, letter writing or other forms of daily writing. By learning about what constitutes a good paragraph in English, and then compiling good paragraphs into good essays, students will learn to write papers that acceptable at the university level. Along the way, we will start to add vocabulary and rhetorical devices that are found in academic English. The classes will consist of mini-lectures and writing sessions (in-class timed writings) and out of class assignments and writings. |
授業の方法 | Students must be familiar with and be able to produce basic sentence types and have an understanding of English grammar patterns. Moderate proficiency in keyboarding is helpful as is a knowledge of Microsoft Word (English). |
