授業テーマ Individual oral presentations by groups with introduction of group communicative skills.
授業のねらい・到達目標 Students will practice basic presentation techniques, skills, and speech composition.
授業の方法 Students will form groups of three or four for discussion, preparation, and presentation. One week will consist of introduction of topic, techniques, and to the extent necessary, vocabulary items. Groups will discuss what and how to present. The next week will consist of each group making their presentation. Group members should be prepared to stay in contact with their fellow members.
履修条件 Only those conditions specified by the University.
事前学修・事後学修,授業計画コメント This syllabus will also be given out as a handout which will be reviewed, explained, and commented the first day of class. This will not be repeated in the second semester, so any new students should download this syllabus and, if there are any questions, ask their fellow classmates. I will take any unanswered questions.

There will be no review of syllabus, so any new students should download this syllabus themselves. If they have any questions, ask their fellow students, and if the answer is unsatisfactory, ask me. Introduction of persuasive presentations of question of fact. Group discussions on how to compose and deliver presenatation. Groups will be created or found for any new students.

Each group will come to the front of the class and present their persuasive presentation of question of fact topic. Students will take notes to be handed in of each group presentation. Teacher evaluation will follow.

3 Preparation: study pages 55-60 of text.
Introduction of persuasive presentations of problem solution. Group discussions on how to compose and deliver presenatation.
Review: keep in contact with group members about presentation.
4 Preparation: review and polish points for preparation.
Each group will come to the front of the class and present their persuasive presentation of problem solution topic. Students will take notes to be handed in of each group presentation. Teacher evaluation will follow.

5 Preparation: study pages 61-66 of text.
Introduce persuasive presentations of problem-cause-solution. Group discussions on how to compose and deliver presenatation.

Introduce persuasive presentations of comparative advantages. Group discussions on how to compose and deliver presenatation.

10 Preparation: review and polish points for preparation.
Each group will come to the front of the class and present their persuasive presentation of the comparative advantages topic. Students will take notes to be handed in of each group presentation. Teacher evaluation will follow.
Review: read text, pages 79-84.
11 Preparation: study pages 79-84 of text.
The last two chapters will focus on students creating their own topics. For next week’s presentation, this topic may be any kind of informative presentation. In addition to the themes listed in the textbook, I will provide a handout of other possible themes. Group members will decide their group’s topic in consultation with teacher, and discussions on how to compose and deliver presenatation will follow.

Each group will come to the front of the class and present their informative presentations. Students will take notes to be handed in of each group presentation. Teacher evaluation will follow.

The last chapter focuses on students creating their own persuasive presentation. Group members will decide their group’s topic in consultation with teacher, and discussions on how to compose and deliver presenatation will follow. Groups will have more time to prepare for this presentation.

参考書 None assigned but students are encouraged to always measure the extent of their knowledge and understanding, and use hard-copy dictionaries and reference books for their own needs.
成績評価の方法及び基準 平常点(25%)、授業参画度(25%)、As described below, attendance(25%)、As described below, improvement,(25%)
Class work (25%), class participation (25%), effort shown in each class (25%), improvement in work or effort throughout the semester (25%). Attendance and conduct in class will amount to 50% of semester evaluation. The other 50% will be based on work and conduct in each class and overall improvement of same throughout the semester.
オフィスアワー I do not have an office. I will be available in the teachers lounge before 4th period on Thursdays and before 1st period on Fridays, as well as between and after classes in the classroom on both days.
備考 This class will be focused upon on making various forms of presentations. Language as such will not be emphasized, but depending on need may be reviewed.
