授業テーマ Gaining practice and confidence in writing about a variety of topics from popular culture to academic topics, especially as related to your major or interests.
授業のねらい・到達目標 This course is designed to give students opportunities to research, write, and share ideas about a variety of different subjects. Students will write reports every other week. In order to gain practice in writing spontaneously, students will also keep a written journal in which they record, in a limited amount of time, ideas, thoughts, opinions and experiences on topics that will be either given by the teacher or chosen by the students.
授業の方法 Although this is a writing class, most (not all) of the writing will be done as homework. During class time, students will have a chance to discuss their reports and journals in pairs or small groups. In this way, we can use writing as a communication tool that will lead to deeper discussion and reflection on both the writing process and the concepts inherent in the writing.
履修条件 ・同一教員・同一時限で前期と後期を対にして履修すること。
・後期のみの受講希望者も必ず「前期」の初回授業に参加し、履修の許可を得た上で、後期に履修登録すること。前期の初回授業時に受講希望者が定員を超過した場合、人数調整をする。
事前学修・事後学修,授業計画コメント Students will be expected to review and revise their own writing as homework outside of class. Students will also be asked to read articles in English in order to help them generate ideas for their own approach to the weekly assignments.
授業計画
1 Course introduction and review
Preparation: come to class with paper and pen or pencil.
2 Explanation and review of how to write reports.
Preparation: bring a brief news article (not too easy, not too hard), in English, from a newspaper or an internet source.
3 REPORT 1 WRITING
Preparation: bring the same news article to class.
4 REPORT 1 DISCUSSION
Preparation: bring report 1 including: summary of the article, five to ten new vocabulary words from the article, your opinion, and three to five discussion questions.
5 REPORT 2 WRITING
Brainstorm ideas for journal topic.
6 REPORT 2 DISCUSSION
Preparation: bring report 2 including: summary of the article, five to ten new vocabulary words from the article, your opinion, and three to five discussion questions.
7 REPORT 3 WRITING
Preparation: Brainstorm ideas for journal topic.
8 REPORT 3 DISCUSSION
Preparation: bring report 3 including: summary of the article, five to ten new vocabulary words from the article, your opinion, and three to five discussion questions.
9 REPORT 4 WRITING
Preparation: Brainstorm ideas for journal topic.
10 REPORT 4 DISCUSSION
Preparation: bring report 4 including: summary of the article, five to ten new vocabulary words from the article, your opinion, and three to five discussion questions.
11 REPORT 5 WRITING
Preparation: Brainstorm ideas for journal topic.

・前期の初回授業時に受講希望者が定員を超えた場合、人数調整をするため、履修の許可を得るまでは教科書を購入しないこと。
成績評価の方法及び基準 平常点(30%)、レポート(40%)、Homework(30%)
Students with 5 unexcused absences will fail the course.
オフィスアワー All questions can be answered after class.
