授業テーマ	「生きた」英語によるコミュニケーション Listening and speaking
授業のねらい・到達目標	「英語1」は、聞く・話すという、音声言語としてのコミュニケーション能力を培うことを目標としています。母国語習得過程を振り返っても十分理解できるように、言語は思ったり感じたりすることを話し、これを聞いて理解するものとして発達してきました。英語によく耳を傾け、おおよその内容を理解できるようになること、自分が相手に伝えようとすることを英語で即座に表現できること、そうしたコミュニケーション能力を高めていくことがこの授業のねらいです。 The primary focus of this course is on speaking and listening. The course uses recorded materials for its weekly activities. Students also to give short speeches to strengthen further the language patterns that are being studied. At the end of the course, students will be able to initiate or hold a conversation in English with ease and confidence.
授業の方法	Each unit of the textbook is completed within one class session. Speeches serve as a way to review the skills that being learned. They mirror, however, the themes of the textbook.
履修条件	①英語習熟度別クラス分けテストを受け、その結果により振り分けられたクラスで履修すること。 ②英語習熟度別クラス分けテスト未受験の者は、振り分けられたクラスで履修すること。振り分けられたクラス以外での履修はできません。 ③後期は同一教員による同一時限の「英語2」を履修すること。 ④卒業に必要な外国語科目として「英語」を選択した場合、必ずこの科目を履修すること。
事前学修・事後学修，授業計画コメント	In this course, students work on the target skills of speaking and listening as they also enjoy the experience of acquiring a foreign language. Students spend up to 50 minutes per week for their off-class assignments. They will need to prepare beforehand on the basis of the information given in the 'Preparation' part of the weekly class distribution.

1	The Art of Q&A Students review the basics of English sentences and learn how to ask and answer questions Preparation: Make a list of personal activities related to childhood, high school time and current life
2	Making Friends Students learn how to get information when making friends at the first meeting Preparation: Section C of page 7 (To do the exercise without listening to the tape)
3	Speech Practice (1) Students introduce themselves using the sample distributed in the first class Preparation: Write one’s self introduction to be read in class
4	Playing Sports Students learn sports-related expressions and how to ask for and give advice Preparation: Section A of page 12 and Section C of page 13 (without listening to the tape)
5	A Wedding in the Family Students learn the strategies for describing people and making comparisons Preparation: Study the words in Section A of page 18 and those in the quiz section of page 23
6	Basics of Speech-making Students learn how to prepare a standard speech that includes the three sections of opening, development and closing
7	Speech Practice (2) Students give short speeches on the basis of the skills studied in units 1, 2 and 3 and in week 6 Preparation: Outline of the speech as explained in week 6
8	It Tastes Good/Cooking and Eating Students learn how to make suggestions and offers in a restaurant Preparation: Do Section B of page 24
9	Hard Work/Part-time Jobs Students practice job interview and how to explain job-related choices and decisions Preparation: Personal resume using the sample given by the instructor in the previous class
10	Speech Practice (3) Students give short speeches on the basis of the skills studied in units 4 and 5 and in week 6 Preparation: Outline of the speech as explained in week 6
11	Watching Movies Students learn the techniques of asking for and giving opinions Preparation: List of movies (one for each of the following genres: comedy, sci-fi, drama and action)
12	Keeping In Touch and Contacting Friends Students learn how to give instructions and use imperative expressions Preparation: Do Section A of page 42 and the Quiz section of page 47
13	Speech Practice (4) Students give short speeches on the basis of the skills studied in units 6 and 7 and in week 6 Preparation: Outline of the speech as explained in week 6
14	Special listening assignment to bring on week 15 Preparation: Listen to quiz sections of week 1, 2, 3, 5 and 7
15	Overall Vocabulary and Grammar Review Test The test is followed by a review of points that the students had difficulty with Preparation: All vocabulary and grammar of all the units studied so far and as designated by the instructor

教科書	Graeme Todd 『On Air: Listen and Communicate』 Kinseido 2010年 This textbook will be used for the entire academic year. Half the book will be studied in the first term and the remaining in the second term.
成績評価の方法及び基準	授業内テスト(35%)、授業参画度(15%)、Four speech practices(40%)、Week-14-special assignment(10%) Students need to attend a minimum of 10 classes to be considered for evaluation.
オフィスアワー	Saturdays 12:30-12:55 at the teachers’ room. Students are also welcomed to send an email anytime. The mail address will be released in the first class.
備考	Students should refrain from using telephones during classes.
