Listening and speaking
授業のねらい・到達目標 「英語2」は、聞く・話すという、音声言語としてのコミュニケーション能力を培うことを目標としています。母国語習得過程を振り返っても十分理解できるように、言語は思ったり感じたりすることを話し、これを聞いて理解するものとして発達してきました。英語によく耳を傾け、おおよその内容を理解できるようになること、自分が相手に伝えようとすることを英語で即座に表現できること、そうしたコミュニケーション能力を高めていくことがこの授業のねらいです。

This is a continuation of the course that started in the spring term. The focus of the course is on speaking and listening. The course uses recorded conversations for its class activities. Students will continue to give individual short speeches to further improve the language patterns that are being studied. At the end of the course, students will have the confidence of expressing themselves with logic and clarity.
授業の方法 Each unit of the textbook is completed within one class session. Speeches serve as a way to review the skills that being learned. They mirror, however, the themes of the textbook.
履修条件 ①英語習熟度別クラス分けテストを受け、その結果により振り分けられたクラスで履修すること。
②英語習熟度別クラス分けテスト未受験の者は、振り分けられたクラスで履修すること。振り分けられたクラス以外での履修はできません。
③同一教員・同一時限で前期の「英語1」と対にして履修すること
④卒業に必要な外国語科目として「英語」を選択した場合、必ずこの科目を履修すること。
事前学修・事後学修,授業計画コメント The aim of the fall term activities is to continue using recorded sequences of daily conversations as a platform for students to practice sharing experiences of daily interest. Students spend up to 50 minutes per week to do homework and to prepare for weekly lessons.

2 Conducting and Reporting a Survey
Students learn the techniques for conducting and reporting a survey
Preparation: Review and study the charts given by the instructor in the previous class
3 Looking Good
Students learn how to express agreements
Preparation: Do Section A of page 54 and Quiz section on page 59
4 Speech Practice (1)
Students give short speeches on the basis of the skills studied in unit 8, 9 and in week 2
Preparation: Outline of the speech as explained in the previous class
5 Drive On/Learning to Drive
Students practice how to ask for permission
Preparation: Do Section A of page 60 and Quiz section on page 65
6 I'll Do It!
Students practice the strategies for talking about future plans
Preparation: Do Quiz section on page 71
7 Speech Practice (2)
Students give short speeches on the basis of the skills studied in unit 10 and 11
Preparation: Outline of the speech as explained in the previous class
8 The Dating Game
Students learn how to give and accept invitations
Preparation: Do section A of page 72

Students practice how to talk about frequency and routines

10 Arguing an Opinion
Students learn and practice the basic aspects of expressing an opinion

12 Reduce, Reuse and Recycle
Students learn how to add emphasis in sentences

Students practice expressions related to predicting the future
Preparation: Skills learned in week 2 and Section C of page 91
14 Special listening assignment to bring on week 15
Preparation: Listen to quiz sections of week 1, 2, 3, 5 and 7
15 Overall Vocabulary and Grammar Review Test
The test is followed by a review of points that the students had difficulty with
Preparation: Designated vocabulary and grammar of all the units studied in the fall term.

教科書 Graeme Todd 『On Air: Listen and Communicate』 Kinseido 2010年
The course uses the same one that was acquired in the Spring term.
成績評価の方法及び基準 授業内テスト(30%)、授業参画度(15%)、Three speech practices (45%)、Week-14-special assignment(10%)
Students need to attend a minimum of 10 classes to be considered for evaluation.
オフィスアワー Saturdays 12:30-12:55 at the teachers’ room. Students are welcomed to send an email anytime. The mail address will be released in the first class day.
備考 Students should refrain from using telephones during classes.
