授業テーマ	Reading and Writing: Poetry, Drama
授業のねらい・到達目標	There are two main purposes to this seminar: first, to help students become more skilled and confident readers and writers of English by learning how to enjoy and appreciate literary uses of English; and second, to prepare students to write a graduation thesis in English.
授業の方法	The spring semester will focus on poetry and drama. Learning how to read, write and enjoy poetry will help students to appreciate not only how a poem expresses deep feelings and ideas, but also how intonation, rhythm, and rhyme feature in daily conversation. Drama is much the same: the language of plays is the language of daily life; moreover, the drama of a play opens windows into the dramas of daily life. Finally, learning how to read and write these forms, and to write analytical responses, will help students to develop a deeper understanding of the relationship between literary creation and interpretation.

授業計画
1	Poetry: How to read a poem in English "This Is Just To Say", William Carlos Williams. Homework: Read two poems by Blake, "The Lamb" and "The Tyger"; answer reading questions.
2	Poetry: How to read a poem in English Discuss homework answers; compare the two Blake poems, and Williams to Blake. Homework: Write two original poems, one in the style of Blake, the other in the style of Williams.
3	Poetry: How to read a poem in English Poem readings; exchange poems for peer interpretation. Homework: Write interpretations of partners' poems.
4	Poetry: How to read a poem in English Interpretation presentations, feedback, discussion. Introduction to How to Read a Play in English; reading opening lines of Proof, David Auburn. Homework: Read Proof, Act 1, scenes 1-2.
5	Drama: How to read a play in English Watch film version of Proof. Homework: Read Proof, Act 1, scenes 3-4.
6	How to read a play in English 'Gossip' discussion; close reading and discussion of key scenes from Proof. Homework: Read Proof, Act 2, scenes 1-3.
7	Drama: How to read a play in English Close reading and discussion of key scenes from Proof. Homework: Read Proof, Act 2, scenes 4-5.
8	How to read a play in English Close reading and discussion of key scenes from Proof. Homework: Write a short analysis of a scene from Proof.
9	Drama: How to read a play in English Practice and perform "Contentless Scenes." Homework: Compare the play and film versions of Proof.
10	Drama: How to read a play in English Discuss comparisons of the play and film versions of Proof. Homework: Start final project: writing and performing a short play. Prepare a first draft.
11	Drama: How to perform a play in English Short play project workshop. Homework: Be ready to perform a first version of short play in the next class.
12	Drama: How to perform a play in English Short play project workshop. Homework: Revise short plays based on feedback received in class.
