授業の形態 | This course takes place on campus or in-person with a few of class sessions to be conducted online. Students are given easy to understand instructions that enable them to follow classes and even work alone, whenever necessary. 授業概要 | This course aims at consolidating the skills of speaking and active listening. Students work on these target skills by simulating and customizing pre-recorded conversations. The course also involves activities related to vocabulary building and advanced speechmaking techniques. Speech practices mirror the themes of the textbook. They are followed also by Q&A sessions to maximize language interaction and to further expand the language patterns that are being studied. |
授業のねらい・到達目標 | At the end of the term, students will be able: 1) to discuss matters of daily or common interest with logic and ease (A-3-1); 2) to express personal views using reasoned arguments (A-6-1); 3) to do a basic online research and report about in form of a short speech (A-2-1); and, 4) to give short, yet more advanced speeches with an opening part, a development section and a closing part (A-6-1). この科目は文理学部のDP及びCPの2, 3, 6 に対応している。 |
授業の方法 | 演習 Units of the textbook are completed within one class session. Students spend up to two hours, weekly, for reviewing past lessons and previewing new ones. Class sessions are made of: 1) Brief review of the previous language pattern; 2) Vocabulary-building activity; and 3) Study of target skill planned for that week. Every second new unit starts with a quick quiz. Students who are attending the class off-campus are required to do the quick quiz at the same time as those on campus. They are also expected to complete assignments that are designed for such cases through the school’s Blackboard. Feedback for short quizzes and assignments is done during class sessions as part of the review. Feedback for speech practices is given in form of peer evaluation and individually by the instructor. Hand-written assignments are handed back to students in the next class session after being checked by the instructor. |
履修条件 | ①英語習熟度別クラス分けテストを受け、その結果により振り分けられたクラスで履修すること。 ②英語習熟度別クラス分けテスト未受験の者は、外国語教育センターで振り分けられたクラスで履修すること。振り分けられたクラス以外での履修はできません。 ③「英語1」(前期)と「英語2」(後期)は同一教員による同一時限のクラスを履修すること。 ④卒業に必要な外国語科目として「英語」を選択した場合、必ずこの科目を履修すること。 |

成績評価の方法及び基準 | 試験(30%)、レポート:Speech scripts and feedbacks(20%)、授業内テスト:In-session quick quizzes(20%)、授業参画度:Assignments and participation in class activities(20%)、Opinion speech practice(10%) Test is measured by the two progress review exams that take place in session-8 (online) and in session-15 (In-person). Report is measured by the preparation of the Song Review report and the feedback from speech practices. In-class examination is measured by the four quick quizzes in sessions 3, 6, 10 and 13. Participation is measured by engagement in Q&A sessions as well as the timely preparation of weekly assignments. Late submissions are not accepted. 対⾯授業に参加できない場合の条件を満たし遠隔で参加した場合、課題の提出によって評価する。 小テストや授業内試験を受けられない場合、Blackboardを介した課題提出によって評価する。期日については都度、Blackboardで告知する。 |
オフィスアワー | Students can contact the instructor by sending an email. When classes meet in-person, students are welcome to contact the instructor before or after a session. They can also visit the Teachers' room on Saturdays during lunch time (12:30-12:55). |
