授業の形態 | In principle, this class will be conducted in-person. However, to accommodate exchange students who might be unable to enter Japan, this class may be switched to synchronous interactive classes via Zoom, conducted at the class scheduled time. The format depends on the students’ status and the ongoing situation regarding the pandemic restrictions in Japan. Moreover, 7 of the 15 classes will be asynchronous on-demand type. Please always keep updated via Blackboard and do not hesitate to send an email to the professor if you have any questions. Blackboard ID: 20222046 |

授業概要 | This course is tailored to each graduate student's needs. We learn the fundamentals of postgraduate academic writing: reading closely and analyzing texts; questioning sources; reasoning with evidence; organizing persuasive and well-structured arguments, and communicating ideas in clear and effective ways. We discuss how the skills required for academic writing can be used far beyond the field of academia, in any career path, or even in everyday life. |
授業のねらい・到達目標 | Students should acquire self-confidence in expressing their ideas in a clear and rational way. They should achieve a general understanding of the fundamentals of evidence-based demonstrations by: (1) Learning to compose developed individual paragraphs and essays; (2) Using evidence, sources, and appropriate rhetorical modes to support topic sentences and thesis statements; (3) Discussing the purpose of academic writing; (4) Learning how to write a postgraduate thesis. Ultimately, the goal is to be able to demonstrate critical thinking and reading skills by writing expository paragraphs and essays in response to academic readings. Overall, students should gain knowledge in the art of persuasion and communication. この科目は文理学部のディプロマポリシーDP2, 3, 6, 及びカリキュラムポリシーCP2, 3, 6に対応している。(A-2-3, A-3-3, A-6-3). |
