| 授業概要 | This course aims to improve students' daily and academic speaking and writing English communication abilities. Students learn to analyze and express their opinion about an issue of their choice by focusing on conversation and discussion strategies and roles in pair and group work as well as a language focus on vocabulary, collocations, and idioms. |

| 授業の方法 | The content and language-integrated learning method focuses on pair and group work to brainstorm and share ideas before choosing a topic for the academic task. Students analyze a particular issue from four levels (i.e., background, problem, solution, and opinion). Students spend one-hour completing preparation for each class. | 履修条件 | ①英語習熟度別クラス分けテストを受け、その結果により振り分けられたクラスで履修すること。 ②英語習熟度別クラス分けテスト未受験の者は、GRECで振り分けられたクラスで履修すること。振り分けられたクラス以外での履修はできません。 ③「英語1」(前期)と「英語2」(後期)は同一教員による同一時限のクラスを履修すること。 ④卒業に必要な外国語科目として「英語」を選択した場合、必ずこの科目を履修すること。 |

| 教科書 | John Spiri, Science Subjects:Science Subjects, Global Stories Press, 2025 The first half of the textbook focuses on famous scientists, social and applied sciences. The reader is expected to be an active participant in the discussion and exercises that follow each reading. The second half of the textbook (which will be used in English 2) focuses on natural and earth sciences, and technology. Again reader involvement is a prerequisite. |
