| 授業概要 | The goal of this course is for students to further strengthen productive communication skills in English. The course builds on skills developed in the first term. The focus of the second semester is on elements of multi-paragraph compositions and advanced speechmaking techniques. Students work on these skills by producing commentaries, written and spoken, utilizing the themes of the textbook. The course uses Active Learning methods through discussions and interactive Q&A sessions. Students work in pairs and in small groups to maximize both the interaction and the usage of the language. Discussions and Q&A sessions do play a role in the overall grading. |

| 授業の方法 | (演習) Units of the textbook are completed within one class session. Students are expected to complete introductory tasks of the scheduled unit beforehand. Some of the units start with a short quiz. Writing assignments are used for Active Learning activities. Handouts, whenever necessary, are uploaded into the Canvas page of the course. ( フィードバック ) Feedback for quizzes is given during class sessions as part of the skill review. Feedback for the advanced speech practice is given both in the form of peer evaluation and individually by the instructor. Assignments submitted offline, are handed back after being checked by the instructor. |

| 成績評価の方法及び基準 | 試験(15%)、レポート:Writing assignments(35%)、授業内テスト:In-session quizzes(20%)、授業参画度:Class involvement(15%)、Advanced speech practice(15%) Test (試験) is measured by the progress reviews of sessions 6 and 15. Report is measured by the timely preparation of essays and the script of speech practice. In-class examination (授業内テスト) is measured by short quizzes in sessions 3, 8, 10-11. Class involvement is measured by the active engagement in discussions and feedback sessions. Late submissions of assignments are not accepted. Students need to attend 10 class sessions, at least, to be considered for credit evaluation. |
| オフィスアワー | Students can contact the instructor either by sending an email or seeing him directly before/after a class session. The instructor's email address is provided on the first day of the term. Students can also visit the Teachers' room during lunch time (12:30-12:55) on Saturdays. No reservation is needed. |
| 備考 | The class is fun and rewarding. Students only need to be active. The instructor has an extensive experience of teaching English communication in Japan for over two decades. |
